Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a common, popular, and economical treatment option if you have unwanted gaps between your teeth, cracked teeth, chips in your teeth, decaying teeth or even if you have exposed roots caused by other dental conditions. The dental bonding is made from a composite resin material that is both strong and can be molded to look and feel just like your real teeth. It is not an appliance like a dental bridge or dental implant, but it is a substance that is applied directly to the surface of a tooth and can be shaped to restore the look and function of your teeth with ease.

The entire staff at Cherrydale Family Dental prides ourselves in working with every member of the family, from infant to teenager to mom and dad to grandparents. Patience is a virtue. Every single member of our team believes this. We enjoy watching a patient grow and mature, remaining a Cherrydale patient. If you have any questions at all regarding dental bonding, simply call Cherrydale Family Dental at 703-243-8288. You can find us at 4399 Old Dominion Drive, Arlington, VA, 22312.

Why Dental Bonding?

There are quite a few benefits to having bonding applied to your teeth. The most prominent benefit is that it will instantly improve the look of your teeth and smile. This will come as a great relief if you struggle with cracked or chipped teeth and cannot wait to get your teeth repaired. Another benefit is that the bonding can also strengthen the tooth overall. When teeth are cracked, they are more susceptible to bacteria, infection, and further damage.

Restoring the shape of your cracked or chipped tooth means that some of the strength can be regained as well. Another benefit of bonding is that it is quick. Most dental bonding treatments can be completed in one visit with our dentists. This means you do not need to walk around with chipped or cracked teeth any longer. You can even have your dental bonding touched up at future dental visits if we notice the bonding is wearing away, or even if it needs to be replaced.

The Dental Bonding Process

Dental bonding is both fast and easy. Your tooth that needs to be repaired will be cleaned and dried. We will apply cleansers and adhesives to prepare the tooth to receive the bonding material.

Clean enamel allows for the bonding to attach to the tooth surface. The resin is made up of several components, including a glue-like substance that adheres the resin to the surface of the tooth. We can apply it in layers until the desired thickness is achieved. We simply sculpt and shape the material look visually natural.

The compound will be colored to match your surrounding teeth, and when finished the resin is set using a special light that will harden the compound quickly and easily. Your new tooth will then be cleaned and polished, and slightly adjusted if necessary, to fit your bite and smile. The entire bonding procedure normally takes 1-2 hours, depending on the number of teeth that are to be bonded and the severity of the damage to each tooth.

Long Lasting Aesthetics

Dental bonding is not permanent treatment, but it has a long-life expectancy. When the bonding is cared for properly, and when you visit Cherrydale Family Dental every six months for consistent preventative checkups, we can monitor the condition of your restoration. Proper care is important because dental bonding can begin to discolor after some time just like your natural teeth.  If you have severely damaged teeth, your dental bonding might need to be replaced with a more permanent types of solution or appliance at a later date.

Bonding versus Veneers

Dental bonding is designed for the use in simple cosmetic improvements that do not impact the function of your teeth or gums in any way. Gaps, cracks, and chips are the most common issues that dental bonding can correct. Dental bonding is different from veneers in that veneers are made of wafer-thin piece of glass ceramic and fabricated in a special dental lab. The porcelain veneer is designed to look and feel like your natural tooth, and it adheres to your tooth with a bonded cement.

Consider Dental Bonding

If you are simply tired of that gap between your teeth, or if you have become self-conscious about the crack in your tooth, dental bonding can improve the look of your teeth quickly and easily. The longer you delay in having cracks or chips treated, the more risk you pose to your teeth. Cracks will enlarge, and chips can lead to decay.

When decay or further damage occurs, you have reduced your options for a viable solution. It is wise to seek treatment for your cracked or chipped teeth as soon as possible. Dental bonding is suitable for all ages including children, teenagers, and adults.

How Much Does Dental Bonding Cost?

The national average for dental bonding costs are between $100 and $400 per tooth. This makes this treatment quite affordable for addressing a cosmetic repair. Your actual cost will be determined by the number of teeth, the severity of the condition, the materials used, and the insurance coverage applied based on your dental plan.

Contact your dental insurance company before your appointment to understand your coverage options. Make sure to bring this information to your consultation to review with us prior to determining a treatment plan. We also offer Care Credit, so speaking with our financial coordinator to assess your options is another helpful step to restoring your healthy smile within your financial means.

You may have healthy teeth but are looking for an easy restoration option that covers gaps, chips, or cracks. We will treat you like family! We tailor every cosmetic dental plan to your individual circumstances to achieve the best possible result.
